Gouache is my favorite go-to medium for sketching out ideas in color in the studio, or for taking quick notes while out in the field. It’s a great blend between watercolor and acrylic paints, and allows for a lot of versatility that is somewhat reminiscent of oil paints. The bonus I get out of gouache is that when I use my gouache studies as reference for one of my larger oil paintings, my oil painting always turns out more true to the original intentions I have with that particular piece.
